Twenty Years On: See U2 and Support World Hunger Year

2 Dec 2000
Almost twenty years to the day that U2 first played in the US, this Tuesday the band return to play New York - and, once again, they are in an intimate club setting.

It was on December 6th 1980 that U2 played their debut gig in the US at The Ritz - see our Event report on the U2.COM timeline. This Tuesday's show at the Irving Plaza will have lots in common with that first show - no stadium, no tens of thousands of fans, no high definition video screens. Just an hour of great music by a band called U2 playing all their own songs in a small NYC club.

U2.COM's competition winners will be there, along with several hundred lucky listeners to the New York radio station K-ROCK - and the station is also donating a pair of tickers to be auctioned off to the highest bidder to raise funds for World Hunger Year.
