McGuinness is the Man(ager)

When it comes to the band manager rated highest by others in the industry, Paul McGuinness is the man.

The Independent newspaper in the UK talked to 13 managers about 'the highs and lows of working with their headlining acts' and who they thought was the best manager of all. Colonel Tom Parker (Elvis), Brian Epstein (The Beatles) and Peter Grant (Led Zeppelin) were right up there but the most popular nomination was Paul McGuinness.

'To manage a band like U2 for the amount of years he's done it for and for them to be still be at the top,' explains Adrian Jolly, who looks after The Feeling and Lily Allen, 'You've got to be doing something right.'

Peter Leak, who manages Dido and Martha Wainwright, also singled out McGuinness. 'He's meticulously guided their career.'

Ditto Stephen Taverner - who looks after Ash, The Crimea and V//Formation - and Tim Vignon whose acts include The Streets and The Zutons. 'His single-minded belief in U2 and his absolute commitment to them. He's been instrumental in every step of their phenomenal career.'
