U2360° TOUR

Oct 18 2009
Norman, OK, US / Oklahoma Memorial Stadium
with Black Eyed Peas
101
Very different vibe here in Norman, with a smaller stadium floor enhancing the 360 vibe. The Black Eyed Peas on their first date with us got things off to a great start for 60,000 Oklahomans and things just got better.

Highlights might have been: 'Crazy' - never fails to surprise people who haven't heard the live version ; the little boy in green stripes who got up on stage for his moment in the spotlight during Unforgettable Fire; MLK ('A message of love from Oklahoma') and a very special introduction to Moment of Surrender.

'For the past few days, all over the world, people have been standing up against extreme poverty,' explained Bono. 'Last year 1.6m people stood up, there's about 60,000 of you here tonight so let's see if we can break a record..'

Strangely for the climactic moments of a U2 show, he then invited everyone to sit down and, on the count of three, to stand up. And they did - the audience unanimous in bellowing 'Stand Up' on cue.

'This is happening in Africa and India, and now Oklahoma yes... from all of us, thank you so much.'

How was it for you in Norman tonight? Tell us what it was like and post your photos below. Here's what they played, more coming up.

U2.....FInally!
I had been trying for over 20 years to see my favorite guys in concert and took my brother with me when I FINALLY got my chance! Bono and the guys brought a great show with a vengence and didn't disappoint us in the least! It was everything we had hoped for and more. The show held us spellbound as marveled at finally seeing our hero's perform. OU football Field was a great set up for their elaborate stageshow creating a memory we will take with us forever. If you get a chance, GO!! You'll hate yourself if you don't.

Norman, Ok - God Bless U2
The night was cool, temp wise too. Bono even commented on how it felt like home. The sounds were crisp & clean, great vocals and of course the best stage (Spaceship) ever. I have longed to see these guys, it's been 26 years since they were here last. Bono said they were still "babies" then. We couldn't have asked for more from a band who so willingly spills it's SOUL on stage right in front of us to devour. The video boards were the best, hats off to all of the crew for the great video. We haven't stopped thinking about the show, singing the songs over & over again. I hope the band enjoyed Norman, Ok as much as we enjoyed U2!!!! Please come back!!!! Thank you, thank you, U2!! God Bless.

Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!
This was my first U2 concert and I totally loved it. The Black Eye Peas were awesome. Great pick for the opening act. I loved their energy and songs. U2 was more than I could ever imagine. I have been such a huge fan for years and to see them live was incredible. I can't wait to see them again. Overall, the best concert I have ever seen. Thanks and love you guys. Hope to see you again soon.

Norman was Rocking Sunday Night!!
Last night was my second U2 concert. I attended the Rattle & Hum Tour event in Ft. Worth, the night BB King and U2 colaborated that we have all seen on the Movie. Tonight was special not only because it was my first U2 concert in over 20 years, but also because it was the first U2 concert for my wife who is a HUGE U2 fan also. We were just blown away by how good the Black-Eyed Peas were. They kicked it in high gear from the very beginning! Then when the boys came on stage, everyone was freaking out! The night was absolutely UNFORGETTABLE!!!!! The stage show was so cool, but of course Bono, Edge, Larry & Adam were so full of energy and put on a show like it was the first time for them too!! The energy these guys put into each and every show is just awe inspiring!

EXTRAORDINARY
My first U2 concert, and it changed the way i will listen to U2 songs for ever! The band played all of my favorites, namely Mysterious Ways, my all-time favorite song, and even some songs i would never have guessed i would hear, like Until the End of the World. The energy at the stadium was incredible, and Bono had the entire place jumping, clapping, dancing, and singing their hearts out. I will never forget looking down at the incredible work of art that was the stage and seeing the members of my favorite band perform all of the songs i could ever have dreamed they would play... A huge Thank You to Bono, The Edge, Larry, and Adam for an unforgettable, magnificent night!

U2 still AWESOME after all these years
This year My wife and I have seen U2 3 times (Chicago1,Dallas,Norman)...sitting on a different side each time and from every side the show has been awesome....and last night in Oklahoma was the BEST! The stadium was a little smaller which made the "space junk" seem even bigger. The band played perfectly and have not faded from months on the road. In each set we have heard a few different songs, but we still missed "Blue room" argh!...The set is great the playlist is great and seeing U2 in a small college town in the fall...PRICELESS! We hope to see them next spring again.......U2 is the BEST band around.....Peace

A Ho!! (thank you in Arapaho)
Many thanks to U2 for bringing their show to Norman. It was awesome to have them two miles away from home rather than having to drive to Dallas or somewhere else. Please dont take so long to come back. Amazing show!! Lots of NLOTH, which my kids loved, favorite album in our household. Our family of five enjoyed the show, my kids were very happy and sang all the way through it. Everyone around us had a great time and were very friendly, something about a U2 show gets people excited and brings out the best of crowds. Thank you for coming back to Norman!!!

Stormin' in Norman!
What a fantastic event! People around us who had been to the Dallas concert remarked how much better the Norman, OK show was due to the intimacy of the stadium and no sound quirks of Cowboys Stadium. This was my first U2 concert at age 51 and I was blown away. We really enjoyed the crowd of all ages and laughed with some young folks about how different the presentation was than the concerts of my youth like Jethro Tull, Emerson, Lake & Palmer and ZZ Top! To the guys, thanks for sharing your talent and I can't wait for the next tour!

Engineering Spectacle
Kudos to the genius artists, engineers, contractors, craftsmen and others who designed and built the amazing 360 degree spaceship/claw structure. Who knew we would be blessed with such a construction! And how many countless hours were involved in designing and programming the light and video cues. Amazing Grace indeed!
BEST SHOW ON EARTH
IT WAS LOUD AND N UR FACE! Singing Aazing Grace before "Sreets" was very sweet indeed. "Crazy" had a nice mix.....but really not one dull moment! I really do appreciate the band producing a stunning, energetic 2 and a half hour spectacle. It means a lot when dishing out some big cash to see it. GA was a great experience...the band just attacks you from all angles! Really made the concert intimate and the band reaches total "duende" w/ the crowd quickly. You could tell that the band puts their all into it. Couldn't ask for a better autumn night all around!

Amazing!
Awesome concert. The stage was incredible. Photos don't do it justice. Favorite parts were the older songs with the entire stadium belting them out. Well worth the money!
The Bucket List
Check one more off the Bucket List... In the earliest days of MTV I viewed the U2 Joshua Tree concert at Red Rocks. Right then I told myself that I would see this band live one day. The show on Owen Field Sunday night did not disappoint. What a fabulous set-such a fun spaceship! The Peas were full of energy and a perfect partner for U2. Bono and the gang gave us much love which we returned 60,000 fold. "Stand UP!"

A Sort of Homecoming....
I was too young to ride with my friends who were making the 60 mile trip in to OKC the first time you were in Oklahoma. I've flown to Phoenix, AZ and driven to KCMO to see the band, it was wonderful to finally be able to see them here in my own little back yard! :) I had such a good time that I didn't want to leave - in fact, the nice security guard asked us to leave as soon as the crew in hardhats came out to begin taking apart the MAGNIFICENT stage. I wasn't a fan of The Black Eyed Peas and only know a few songs. But, they put on a fabulous show and I almost didn't want them to stop singing - ALMOST. My only regret is that I didn't have the opportunity to meet the Adam, Bono, The Edge and Larry in person. Please don't wait so long to come back! We miss you already!!!!

UNBELIEVABLE!!!
I've got Dallas and now OK shows etched in my mind. In a Little While was such a surprise and loved that Unknown Caller made it back. Participating in the "Stand Up" was a kick!

My wife and I saw your show in Nice, France in 2006 with Keane. We loved the Black Eye Peas, and this playlist was great! Thank you for coming to Oklahoma. I realize this is not a big venue like L.A. or New York, but I hope you had as much fun as we did. Please come back before another 26 years passes. Respectfully David

better than Vertigo
I thought the Black Eyed Peas would be an energetic warm up band but wondered how they would play for U2 fans. Seemed lots of others wre wondering the same thing. They brought it. They were not intimidated by the stage and used it effectively. They did what a warm up band should do: drop the name of where they are often, and mention the band everyone came to see. They showed us why U2 chose them. They did an awesome job getting the crowd in the mood. My first U2 show was Veritgo in Chicago, night one of what was filmed for the tour DVD. U2360 was so much better. Because of the staging, I did feel more intimately connected with the band than I did at the United Center in Chicago. The crowd from the beginning was the "fifth member" of the band. The connect was quick and sustained throughout. Just a few minor glitches in the performance, reminding us this is a live event. Generally the band blew through the set and kept things moving. I especially appreciated what they did with the staging and bringing the boy out on stage during Unforgettable Fire to make a potentially energy sapping song into something interesting. It was a cold, windy night, which prompted Bono to thank us for making it feel like home. It was a great feeling. And I think getting to sit back of front was the best seat in the house, especially getting to watch the band walk down the steps together at the end of the show. And when lights went up, my thought was, "How can this be topped!?

Thanks
Thanks for coming to Oklahoma. The show was amazing and we appreciate your bringing the energy, love, poetry and rock and roll our way. God bless you all and don't wait another 26 years to come back!
WOW!!!!!
There is nothing like being amazed by truely talented musicians. Last night did it for me! The sound was amazing, lighting...amazing, crowd...amazing, technology...amazing and most of all the music...AMAZING. With a bonus of 60,000 plus singing Amazing Grace with Bono! You guys rocked it out in Norman last night! Thanks for the amazingly memorable night!

Awestruck...
3rd time's a charm... tonight was the 3rd time I've had tickets to U2, and the 1st time I made it to a show!! I've been a fan since War and have the parental pride that my 12 yo daughter has become a fan after U23D. I made Norman her first rock convert and as close as we are, was still surprised to look over at her during "Boots" to see huge tears streaming down her face on either side of one of the biggest grins I've seen her display. Totally agree with freihofer in U2 taking us to church... I felt closer to God than I do in Mass... I feel more in love with life, people and the World thanks to U2, One.org, Bono's global efforts. Most importantly... thanks and God Bless to the bands families for supporting and surviving their lifestyle to bring such magic to us.

Amazing show!!
Thanks U2!! I waited 17 long years to see U2!! Worth the wait!! Bono sounded amazing! The whole band was incredible! I was close enough to almost touch them! I will never forget it!!!!

Incredible production! Awesome Show!
This show was worth everything - the money, the crowds, the cold, the time. Black Eyed Peas got the crowd going and we were all ready for U2! It was such an incredible show. The scope of the entire thing is fairly mind boggling. Loved everything you all did. Oklahoma showed up for this and loved it. Note to Bono/Edge: If the two of you could possibly get with Jim Inhofe, Sally Kern etc., and talk some peace with them, Oklahoma might have somewhat of a chance of changing our reputation as it stands currently. It would be a tough one but I would bet you'd be up for it, if you had the time in the future. ;) Thank you all for a great experience!
unforgettable
First, yep, the Black Eyed Peas were great. If you ever get a chance to see them live, go for it. They had a great show with great music. The stage really did make it feel like it was much closer. And if you don't get to see that thing, you should look it up on the web someday... I didn't really know what to expect, but the show was so stuffed full of great music, great vibes, and great energy, that I just woke up with a big buzz in my head. The best moment was when Bono told us about the "stand up" movement. So the entire crowd, including on the floor, sat down. Then on the count of three, everyone shouted "STAND UP!," and did stand up, all in unison. It was an unforgettable experience for the audience, which spanned all ages.
