Which One ?

13 Sep 2011353

Twelve timeless tracks, twenty years old next month. But which is the one song from Achtung Baby that will always have a special place in your life ?

The single releases from the album colonised the airwaves in the early 1990's while tracks like Ultraviolet  and Until The End of the World have become live mainstays.

The Fly will always signal the moment when The Joshua Tree started toppling, Mysterious Ways has that unforgettable groove and One... what else is there to say about One?

But there are twelve tracks on this album and maybe your own Achtung Baby moment is none of these.

Which one song will always make it onto your U2 greatest hits collection - and why does it means so much to you ?

Who does it make you think of? Where were you when you first heard it? What is it about for you...  and why can you never let it go?

Guess none of us can't choose one
How could any of us choose only a song? But if I had to choose the best album I'd choose Achtung. I think the first two songs, represents and shows the escence and the power of the album and the genre itself. They -don't forget the producers, which ARE half of THIS album- defined the whole decade with this album

ONE
Even if you take away the lyrics, as powerful as they are, the music alone can send you to a great place. When I heard this song as a kid, it had already been out for years, but it immediately became one of my favorites. Hearing it again last month in concert felt like the first time all over again, and that’s what U2 does!

Not easy
All the songs on Achtung Baby, are very special, this album simply has it all, rock ,industrial, ballads, reggae feel, dance and all of them have that U2 feel in them that they only can create. But my favorite must be when I waited late at night to hear the release of the first single THE FLY, it just blew my mind out the sounds coming out from that song , Like Bono said...THE SOUND OF FOUR MEN CHOPING DOWN THE JOSHUA TREE.

The Fly
The Fly was released about a month before Achtung Baby and it was my first contact with the “new” U2 at the time. I was taken by surprise and during my first few listens I couldn’t decide whether I liked it or not. Soon enough I became addicted to it and really excited and proud that my favorite band came up with such an ingenious piece of music. I could talk for hours about The Fly (and Achtung Baby in general), but let me just say that it will always remind me of the excitement I had during those times about the new album. It is the only U2 single that I have in three different formats (7’’, 12’’, and cd).

Until the End of the World
I simply love the rhythm and the way it has been performed in concerts, I loved it it too here in Mexico's concert on Sunday. I enjoy that daring way of saying the words, I think they're powerful lyrics when you feel life has been cruel to you, and when you've been cruel to life, too, I don't know that's what I imagine everytime I listen to it. Mysterious Ways and Zoo Station are in my heart, too.

Mysterious Ways
This video was the first time I saw and heard U2. It was on MTV and it made me stop zapping channels. It just caught me. I fell in love with U2 in this very moment.

The Fly......
Always remember being at home and listening to it on the first play on radio at 8am.......it still amazes me! distorted guitars, thumping drums and bassline then Bono's swagger ripping through an enormous track. Then came the video, and ultimately my goatee (as per Edge) which has stayed with me for 20 years now! This kicked started Zoo Tv, the record breaking sell outs, overnight sleepovers outside Earls Court London to get tickets and finally the world greatest show being Zoo Tv outside broadcast. Achtung baby yall..........x

Love is Blindness
I remember listening to the whole album on my way home on the ferry to the isle of Arran (Scotland) i had just bought the vinyl LP and tape for my personal stereo. The whole album blew me away but LOVE IS BLINDNESS stuck in my head and when i got the pleasure of hearing it live at Parkhead Glasgow during the ZOOtv tour i was in heaven. The Edge blew me away with his haunting guitar solo at the end. That moment will stay with me forever.

ALL OF THEM!!!
AB is by far my favourite U2 album!!! It came out when i was 24 and it was the sountrack of when i lived in Lexington KY. or more like the soundtrack of my 20's! I love all the songs, but my fave is ONE!!!

Which one.....
Achtung Baby came out at a very emotional time in my life and was my constant soundtrack at the time. It's hard to choose just one song that stands out b/c the whole album means so much to me. One song that stands out for me though is "Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses." I remember it being premiered on the radio a couple of days before the actual album coming out and I managed to get it taped and getting to listen to it over and over in my car. I must've listened to it a hundred times before even owning the album. "One" and "So Cruel" get me every time too though.

ONE
The history behind the song of it being the song that might have just saved U2 keeps me coming back for more. I also have it U2 ONE on my vehicle license plate and I get comments and honks from other drivers ALL the time and i have for 20 years....

All of them
I remember buying the CD the first day it came out at a midnight sale at a now defunct CD store. My friends and I played it over and over. It turned out to be the soundtrack of my college years. There are two things that mark the greatness of an album. The first thing is you can listen to the entire album from start to finish and there isn't one time you would think to advance to another song. The other is after 20 years, Achtung Baby sounds as fresh and as exciting as ever.

Ultraviolet
Because is what everybody needs everyday: someone who light our way

So Cruel is the Ultraviolet
So Cruel is one of the most emotionally charged songs in the album! And Ultraviolet can stop any child crying!

Can't choose just one
This is the album I would also take if I were stuck on a deserted island and had to choose. Mysterious Ways and Ultraviolet have amazing powers.

From the Sheer face of Love
The Fly "Swats" all others.

One
definately one. touching, great lyrics, often misunderstood. a brilliant piece of art.

There is only one choice..
Acrobat is all im saying

Every single one of them
It's hard to choose on only one song from AB. It's such an incredible album, full of new sounds for the band and the palpable theme of lack of love in the album. If I had to choose twelve tracks from all of U2's discography to take to a deserted island, it surely would be AB's full track list
