'What are the odds?'

11 Feb 2010138
David O'Reilly, the award-winning director behind U2's 'Crazy' video, was getting ready to leave his flight in LA from Germany a couple of weeks back, when what should start playing on the in-flight screens but... his video for 'Crazy'.

David tweeted about it and added this shot. 'That was nuts,' he told us. 'It was pretty much the landing song,'What are the odds!?'

And that got us thinking: have you had a freakily coincidental U2 moment ?

Not with a U2 video you've directed being shown on your flight as that would restrict the field of entrants. In fact it doesn't need to include a flight at all. Or a video.

We're looking for your U2 anecdotes that stretch the bounds of possibility - a moment when U2 intersected your daily routine with just a hint of spookiness.

Well, anyway, you get the idea. Tell us about it below.

Several!
I have U2 coincidences all the time (though I don't know if you can call them "coincidences," because I love U2 so much I naturally am on the lookout for anything relating to them). The first and probably most random one, I was watching Mrs. Doubtfire for the first time with a few of my friends (none of whom are U2 fans, nor know how much I love U2). At one point in the movie, the camera pans into the daughter's room, and what happens to be on her wall but an Unforgettable Fire poster. I didn't say anything out loud, but I thought it was really cool. The other day, I was driving down my road and was just about to turn into my driveway, when With or Without You came on the radio. I kept going forward, and just drove around my neighborhood until it was over. The third one isn't so much of a coincidence, but it was still a cool moment. I was riding the in the car with my family to California, and we were going through the deserty stretch of land where the photo on the album cover for the Joshua Tree was taken. I was listening to an '87 bootleg when we first came to it, and it was the perfect music for the scenery.

U2 Houston
I took my wife and two sons to see U2 in Charlottesville, Virginia. It was an awesome night as my boys are ages 20 and 17 and could really appreciate the concert with MUSE opening for U2. We had a totally cool night that we will always remember. I wanted to see U2 again, happened to be going to a conference for work, was on the U2 website tour dates and noticed that they were going to be in Houston the same week I was going to be there for my conference. I got a couple of tickets and got one for my good friend on his 50th birthday, and we saw U2 in Houston. An awesome night too!

2005 Landing in Beijing...Vertigo
This was cool and surreal! I was landing in Beijing in 2005 excited to see the Vertigo tour when I arrived back in Philly. As the plane was landing in Beijing, I was listening to Vertigo on one of the in-flight stations. What made it even cooler was was the front nose-cone video as we landed.

I Found What I Was Looking For
In 1994 I was driving to Vegas from LA while on a U2 homage . I approached Vegas at about 3am and could see the Vegas sky lit up from about 30 miles away . I entered Vegas and found the infamouse 'Strip' . The rental car spluttered just as 'I Still Haven't Found' played on the radio . I'd ran out of gas at the casino the video was shot at ... Pride on April 4th
So my Ipod is always set to shuffle when I run. Early morning last April the 4th, I started out for a jog, and the first song I heard was Pride. (I know Bono has said he feels stupid because the King assassination actually happened in the evening, but don't worry about it Bono, it is poetic license, and besides, you still probably know more American history than the average US citizen.) If only my iPod played MLK next, that would have been a real coincidence.

The break up song
After breaking up with my ex girlfriend sarah i decided to go on holiday with my friends. Our song was def with or without you & on the flight i was listening to some music. Thin lizzy- sarah came on and i was like thats not even funny, what wasn't really funny was u2 with or without you comin on straight after. Weird or what. Nice memory now but :)

Hanover Quay
My family was in Dublin in May 2008 when we went by the studio to take some pics. After about an hour, Bono and Edge came out in a black sedan on their way to a Bruce Springsteen concert. The vehicle stopped and Bono got out asking my son what his name was. My 7 year old Riley responded and he came over and shook his hand. We chatted for a bit but not wanting to be late for Springsteen, they apologized and drove away. It was a great memory!

Welcome To Ireland
My wife and I traveled to Ireland in March 2001, and being such a huge fan of the band, I was excited to see all of the band-related sites in Dublin, our first stop. We walked into the bed & breakfast, opened the door, and what do we hear playing on the radio in another room but "Stuck in a Moment." It's probably not out of the ordinary to hear U2 on the radio in Dublin, but it was a nice "Welcome To Ireland!" moment that started the trip off nicely.

Direction was needed
My ex-wife couldn't decide on a track for her schooling. She was torn between a Business or Nursing degree for years and than on Sept 23rd 2005 Vertigo show in Minneapolis Bono provided the inspiration as he talked about all the miracles that happen in this world as a result of the doctors and nurses. This was the sign she needed to guide her to the next step in her evolution. She went on to complete her degree with honors and has now steadied herself in her dream. And I'm very proud of her for this even through we're no longer together.

Crazy stuff with Crazy tonight ! :)
Just 2 days after the concert in Vancouver, me and my bestfriend ( who also went to the concert ) were at the mall and we were looking into this drug store. She had bought me a U2 calendar for Christmas but didnt have enough money for one herself, so we saw a calendar stand I told her they might have it there. We walked in all excited. As we walked in I hear the last couple words of "Ill go crazy if I dont go crazy tonight" . Us, being obsessed teens, looked at eachother and started crying. LOOOl! :) PS- they didnt have the calendar.

First song I heard upon landing in china
When I got to shanghi last year, I remember getting picked up at the airport by the hotel shuttle. I remember that the radio station was all in chinese and I couldnt understand what anyone was saying. Then all the sudden I hear the first song in china and it was a U2 song. It was like what are the chances that I just got off the fricking plane and the first song is a U2 song. I understand they are huge everywhere. But I felt like it was meant to be. Then the next year on the 360 tour I saw them in Milan twice, Paris twice, chicago twice and in Pasedena. Not bad for a 24 year old kid from Los Angeles.

Bono and Bruce 2005
Bono and Bruce Springsteen are my 2 all-time favorite singers/songwriters/performers. It is no coincidence that they are good friends. . . I get a sense that we are all soul mates. I saw Springsteen on my 18th Birthday back in 1981, then he played at last year's Super Bowl . . . ON MY BIRTHDAY! Then, in 2005 I saw Springsteen on May 10th (which is of course Bono's Birthday). . . 4 months later I saw U2 on BRUCE'S Birthday (September 23rd). All of these concerts were in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN. Keep making great music Boys! We love you!! Looking forward to the 360 Show on June 27th!!

Even On Our Wedding Day
Got married September 26th last year, wife and I are huge U2 fans (saw the Pasadena show a month later). Well, when we finally got back to the hotel room, U2 was playing on Saturday Night Live when we turned on the TV for a minute and they just started "Moment of Surrender". We just looked at each other and smiled when Bono sang "Even on our wedding day" then went to the bedroom.

Punching in the numbers
I went into my bank to use the ATM, it was early in the morning and only ATM's were available. As soon as I walked in, Moment of Surrender was playing!!. What are the odds. I took my time to listen to it, even though I had it on my ipod which I had with me, lol

The Edge makes everything okay
I was recently on a British Airways flight from Washington, DC to London Heathrow, making my connection to Edinburgh to begin my semester abroad at the University of St. Andrews. I was really upset because I've never been that far from home for such an extended period of time (4 months as opposed to my usual one month) and was just looking for something to tell me that everything would be all right. So I began thumbing through the in flight magazine to check what movies would be playing. I opened it up and immediately felt a sense of calm and relief and, dare I say, zen. Because "It Might Get Loud" was showing. And knowing that I would spend 1.5 glorious hours of flight time watching Edge, Jack and Jimmy bend, coax, and own their guitars made me feel so much better, not only about the flight, but about my semester as a whole. And let me say now, it's been an incredible experience so far and it all started with EDGE.

U2 reference
Haha well I went to the mall this one day... Went to HMV and U2 had a WHOLE section to themselves and I saw this really big like bigger than my house poster. Saw someone wearing a U2 t-shirt. I told my friend that if I see or hear another thing about U2 I will die. Well...the movie I went to go watch that day and a U2 reference in it. What a coincidence. I ended up squealing "U2" in the movie theater.

Landing with U2
I have a funny airplane story as well. I was flying from Greece to Croatia for the U2 show, planed was delayed. But when I reached, U2 just got off the plane as we landed and we parked our plane right next to them.

City of Blinding Lights
Was competing in my first triathlon last summer. Had swam, biked and run, really struggled through the last part of the run, which ended with a lap of a university track, and was just entering the 'stadium' and 'City of Blinding Lights' started to play, so I got to run my last lap with an extra spring in my step (or at least not crawling like I thought I would be!) Pretty sure I wasn't looking too beautiful at that point- but it helped!

U2 Hawaii trip
So, me and my than girlfriend, now wife went to Hawaii to See and here the last concert of Vertigo tour... The trip to Hawaii was very U2... we missed the plane and spend the day in Paris at Charles De Gaulle airport (where the B-Day was shot). The plane was set for the day after and i had a chance to watch U2 Vertigo Boston DVD for about seven times - we were on the plane for 15 hours. Finally we arrived to Honolulu and have a blast of vacation and see/hear the concert... 9 monuts later we get our first son, who is allready a great U2 fan... Like his dad and mom...

Confidence Boost!!
Just a few minutes before I had this really hard economy test (where I was super nervous about), I heard the speakers in our cafeteria at school blow out Elevation. It was such a coincidence that a U2 song was aired that I got this enormous energy boost. And what do you know, I had a perfect 10,0 on that test!!!!!!! Still can't believe it!! All thanks to U2!!!!

360
My U2 moment was dining at the 360 tower restaurant looking down upon the 360 stage awaiting the 360 concert in Toronto, September 2009. Very cool...

3:33
I was listening to U2 on my iPod the other day and at the point in the song Unknown Caller, Bono sings, "3:33 when the number fell off the clock face". I happened to look at the cock on my phone and the time was 3:33. Either it is a message or I am predictable and listening to the No Line for the millioneth time.
