U2 go head to head with Craig David and David Gray at the prestigious Ivor Novello awards in May as they compete for the best contemporary song prize.

U2's Grammy Winning Beautiful Day and David's Seven Days have been shortlisted for the prize, along with David Gray's Please Forgive Me.

The Ivors are viewed as the most prestigious songwriting awards in Britain, and most of the winners are selected by the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters.

The 46th Ivor Novello awards encompass categories such as best song
musically and lyrically and best original film score.

Craig David is also nominated for best dance single, for his work with Artful Dodger, while Babylon by David Gray is shortlisted, along with Coldplay's Trouble and S Club 7's Never Had A Dream Come True for the best song musically and lyrically prize.

Last year Robbie Williams was named songwriter of the year while Travis won the best contemporary song prize. The awards will be presented at a ceremony at Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London on Thursday 24 May.
