Thanking Paul McGuinness

6 Dec 201370
'This week U2 finalised and signed a new management contract with Live Nation and Guy Oseary.

The band now want to publicly thank Paul McGuinness for his extraordinary leadership, guidance and friendship over the last 35 years.

Paul has saved us from ourselves many times over and we would not be U2 without him.

Sometime soon, U2 will begin a new adventure around the world and we totally understand and respect Paul's desire to not run away with the circus – AGAIN.

Perhaps more than any music management operation in history, Paul, alongside Trevor, Keryn and the team at Principle Management has always fought for our rights, for our music, for our fans and for the principles that we and he believe in. His central lesson was that if you cared for your "art", you must also "take care of business" as historically with rock and roll bands, the latter has undone the former.

We are relieved he will remain on as the mentor-in-chief.

We've known Guy for a long, long time, and we're excited that with Paul's blessing he's agreed to take us on. He is a brilliant man with a lot of energy, and knows he has got some big shoes to fill.'

What you have done for this band (U2) goes beyond the boundaries of the Manager - Band relationship...the boys would not be where they are without your guidance...God bless.

Thanks Goose
My son was nicknamed Goose when he was at secondary school! I was over the moon when I read that U2 had affectionately called their manager the same. The best manager a band could ever have. Thank you so much for taking care of our boys over the years. You are so much more than a manager. You have been their teacher, their brother, their friend. Whilst other artists have sunk beneath the waves you became a lighthouse, helping our boys steer away from the minefields and rocks in the stormy sea of music law and recording contracts. Well done sir! A fine example you are to managers all over the world. Now you can put your feet up and actually experience a U2 concert without having to worry about every little thing that could possibly go wrong. You no longer have to hold the reins you can finally sit back and enjoy the ride. xxxoooxxx

It's OK!!!
I've read a lot of stuff on the 'relationship', bizzarly so. U2 aren't stupid. Paul's moving sideways, with an eye always on the goal. The bond is the bond, and it would be foolish of some to think something has broken. It hasn't. REALLY POSITIVE STATEMENT; "sometime soon we will begin another adventure around the world"

Thank you Paul McGuinness!
Paul- congratulations and good luck on a semi-retirement well earned! U2 would not be the same band without you and you've both went on to have such extraordinary careers. I look forward to the next chapter in the band's history and glad you'll still be a part of it. All the best! -Patrick

A sincere thank you.
Thank you Paul McGuinness for seeing and believing in U2 from the beginning. Even before they were really U2! And for fighting for them all these years. Adam, Larry, Edge and Bono would not be the U2 they are today without you. All the best. Slainte!

Thank you
Thank you, Paul McGuinness, for seeing something special all those years ago. U2 have been the soundtrack to my life for 31 years. It will definitely be strange without the 5th member. Enjoy the semi-retirement. Looking forward to what the future will bring.
