Stealing Hearts

Design collaborators, Four5One, publish new book documenting graphic history of U2.

Designers Shaughn McGrath and Steve Averill have been at the heart of the graphic design of U2 for decades. In fact Steve as our earlier story illustrates, has collaborated with the band since day one.

This past weekend the pair were in Cleveland, to give a talk on their work with U2 at the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame and, coinciding with this, they have published a lavish new book 'Stealing Hearts at a Travelling Show'.

The book details the involvement of Four5One - now the company name - with U2, from the very first single right up to the last album, the second volume of the Best Of series. It is a beautiful documentation of the collaboration between band and designers in the effort to visualise their music.

As well as Steve and Shaughn discussing their work, there are new interviews with Bono and Adam and all kinds of graphic design out-takes including album covers that never saw the lights of day, tour books, t-shirt executions and other surprises.

Only 6000 copies of Stealing Hearts At A Traveling Show have been printed, including 2000 in hardback.

The book will be on sale if you are visiting the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the next few months and also online from the Four5One website, priced at

HARDBACK $65 (€55.50, £40.00stg.) plus P&P
SOFTBACK $45 (€38.50, £27.50stg.) plus P&P
