U2.com slipped into the studio a few days back where the band played us the new tracks and we were blown away. A kind of musical autobiography, the eleven new songs chart their earliest influences from 70s rock and punk to early 80s electronica and soul... and reveal how music changed everything. As Bono sings in the lead song, 'The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone)' 'I woke up when the miracle occurred/ Heard a song that made some sense out of the world...'

Exploring themes of home and family, relationships and discovery, detailed liner notes fill out the picture with resonant stories, like one of the first gigs the teenage band got into.

'The 4 members of U2 went to see the Ramones playing in the state cinema in Dublin without thinking about how we were going to get in. we had no tickets and no money.. My best friend Guggi had a ticket and he snuck us through a side exit he pried open. The world stopped long enough for us to get on it. Even though we only saw half the show, it became one of the great nights of our life....'

Songs of Innocence was recorded in Dublin, London, New York and Los Angeles and is produced by Danger Mouse, along with Paul Epworth, Ryan Tedder, Declan Gaffney and Flood. The album closes with 'The Troubles' featuring the distinctive vocals of Swedish indie singer-songwriter Lykke Li.

Here's the eleven tracks: The Miracle (of Joey Ramone), Every Breaking Wave, California (There Is No End To Love), Song For Someone, Iris (Hold Me Close), Volcano, Raised By Wolves, Cedarwood Road, Sleep Like A Baby Tonight, This Is Where You Can Reach Me Now, The Troubles.

On October 13th the physical release of Songs of Innocence comes with a 24-page booklet. A deluxe, gatefold double album, contains an acoustic session of songs from the album and four additional tracks: Lucifer's Hands, The Crystal Ballroom, The Troubles (Alternative version) and Sleep Like a Baby Tonight (Alternative Perspective Mix by Tchad Blake)

The album will also be available as a gatefold, double white-vinyl LP with an exclusive remix of "The Crystal Ballroom".

Best Work Since "All That You Can't Leav
and maybe better! I am listening to this non-stop. It will be criminal if "Cedarwood Road" is not single. Incredible combination of the vintage U2 sound and today's band. Ignore the "critics". I don't want another "Joshua Tree" or "Achtung Baby". I can listen to those anytime. The challenge is the new, and you guys overachieved!

Another fantastic album!
U2 is one of the best rock bands of our time. I have been a huge fan since the 80s. My favorite song back then was "WAR". The great thing about this album is that if you had never heard U2 before and you listened to SOI, you would be a instant fan and U2 would be your favorite band.Excellent Job as always.
Superb!
I LOVE the new music and can not stop playing it...over and over again! LOVE EVERY SONG!!! THANKS YOU SO MUCH!! Looking forward to the tour!! Hope to get to a few concerts!!

Now when will the tour tickets go on sal
quick review in my humble opinion. The tracks appear to be lined up as an album release. The first 5 are strong side A, the rest side B. First track is good but not the best. Personally I have Iris (Adam kicks on this one), Every Breaking Wave and Song For Someone as top 3 and keepers in the long run, Cederwood Road is a nice Zeppelinesque tune and the rest seem fair. Not real fond of the electronix and lets say overmixing but U2 always strives for perfection and the collaboration of various individuals certainly comes through in the final production versions. I am very much looking forward to the acoustic versions as the songs will truly stand up then. Cannot wait to see Iris live as they always come out much better and stronger live. Long time coming and certain it made everyones day brighter. Now lets post the tour dates and let members have first exclusive to pit tickets and red zone if they do that again but at the same price for crying out loud!!!!

Thank you U2!
Absolutely beautiful work! I am impressed as always and love the atmospheric quality of the songs. I've been a fan since the early 80's and will be till I die ;)

Not impressed
How come it takes so long to produce this? Where's the multi-leveled lyrics? Where's the passion? It's all one mood here and that is bored...

Thank you!
I think it is total class act for you to give away your new album! Thank you so much! I think it's ridiculous that you have gotten negative backlash for such generosity to the public. I am excited to have it and thank you again! This is a move clearly representative of the number one band in the world and as such, is noted, and again appreciated.

Finally :-)
Yessss, after a long wait us U2-fans are finally treated with a new album! After a few listens, it sounds fresh, cohesive and not a hint of the uncertainty and selfdoubt the band allegedly suffered from... I think it's a solid peace of work with interesting musical ideas. I can always do with "more Edge", but hopefully the boys will make up for that during the live shows. So ,please guys, develop the songs more into all-out rocksongs during the shows, throw in some extra guitarsolos and musical layers like you did with the Achtung Baby songs!! This will make listening to the live versions just as refresh an experience as it is listening to the album. So, goodluck and have fun with all the upcoming facets of your albumrelease and we'll all see you out there next year! :-)

High IQ in a Album Music!
I was unhappy with music in the last years. I was thinking what hell is wrong? Nobody is playing music as i knew in my early age. The creativity was gone. or the care with hard job was gone. Maybe I am the problem. Maybe I become old... guess a lot. But when I hear U2, I´m transporting to another universe. All appear clear and make sense. Of course i like others band but with U2 is different. It´s another level. And this album is surely a masterpiece. It has born inside of a general crisis of creativity today, it is like the perfection emerging from caus. It is to remeber across the years. So thanks U2 for make a music masterpiece of 2000 years. Thank you U2 for make a masterpiece of marketing also. And finally thanks U2 for take care to make a masterpiece of art in many aspects in the current days! From a brazilian friend.

Finally!
We've been waiting for long but it definately worth it! From a U2 fan since 1983, I believe that U2 are getting better as time goes by. We were together when we were young, we are still together and by God's will we will get old together. U2 for ever!

I remember seeing U2 playing at Live Aid, saw them for the first time when I was 14 on the Joshua Tree tour and have followed them all over the world since. We won't see another Joshua Tree or Achtung baby but the album is a grower and will only get better after each listen. Yes it took too long but how can we complain, it's great and free. Well done boys and looking forward to seeing it live.
