'One Game Changes Everything'

14 Apr 201015
ESPN's coverage of the 2010 FIFA World Cup will use specially recorded music by Soweto Gospel Choir recorded and filmed in South Africa, with music and live concert footage from U2's concert at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. last October.

This collaboration will appear in every programme throughout ESPN's presentation of the World Cup including soccer highlights, match and studio coverage.

An initial series of four spots, set to the music of U2, will run April through June, and underscore the historic importance of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The first of the four, Robben Island, began airing April 7 across ESPN's networks.

* Robben Island communicates the historic nature and importance of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa, through the prism of soccer. This spot was filmed on location at Robben Island off the coast of Cape Town, South Africa. It is the site where eventual South African President Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for decades, alongside other political prisoners, during the country's apartheid era. (Features 'Where the Streets Have No Name' with Soweto Gospel Choir).

* UNITED conveys the passion for the FIFA World Cup that unites disparate cultures - set to 'Magnificent'.

* The Power of 10 celebrates the honor and burden that comes with wearing the most sacred jersey number in soccer - set to 'Out of Control'.

* Passion captures the excitement that the FIFA World Cup invokes - highlighting the documented 'baby boom' that occurred nine months after Germany hosted the 2006 event - set to 'Desire'.

More on this as we get it.

Magnificent !!!!!!
I was in the other room when I heard Bono's voice on the promo for the World Cup, I dropped everything and came running to see and hear what it was about. I played and replayed it,and saved it to my TV,it was so beautiful and Bono's words and music were perfect..... J & M & L (Adam's Girls)

Ireland is still in the World Cup!
Thru the music of U2, Ireland is still represented in the soccer World Cup. Even more of a shame that the soccer authorities –FIFA – didn’t do anything when we played France in that November night in Paris, in our play-off with France. I wonder will FIFA disallow U2? After all, they are Irish! Looking forward to seeing my fellow Irishmen in my adopted city of Seville on September 29th! Now, for “Gloria!!!!

The Irish & the World Cup...
At least this way the Irish will be represented at the World Cup by the worlds greatest band. It's a pity our football team aren't there too. Ah well, we can always cheer on the French????? Not.

Date Night
U2 + World Cup Soccer = Hot Date with ESPN : ).

U2 + World Cup = Awesome; U2 + NASCAR =
Only the greatest sporting event in the world is good enough to use music from the world's greatest band. NASCAR and FOX committed the height of presumptuous blasphemy by using "Bad" to plug stock car racing. Shameful.

World Cup
Awesome. As I listening to U2 on my iPod shuffle and watching ESPN at the gym, I saw the soccer ad and I KNEW IT WAS U2 MUSIC! I listen to "Out of Control" about 3 times a week. "This is our first single, we hope you like it," Bono at Slane Castle 2001.
