'Judo In A Suit'

23 Sep 2008
Bono is in New York this week, blogging for the FT from the Millennium Development Goals summit at the UN.

Interviewed ahead of the MDG summit, the FT asked him 'what exactly happens in the meetings with these world leaders'.

'Judo in a suit', Bono explained.

But will people care about development amid an apparent collapse in the global financial system?
'Lots of people will be focused elsewhere - understandably so. But it would be a huge mistake for us to ignore the strategic importance of the continent of Africa. China gets it, India gets it. The private sector too - it's where the growth is. A partnership on development is not just heart, it's smart.'
