Bono's Three Wishes

28 Feb 2005
Three wishes for Bono, a winner of this years TED prize.

Each year TED - that's Technology, Entertainment, Design - honour 'three individuals who have shown that they can, in some way, positively impact life on this planet.' TED then put their community members and resources behind trying to fulfill their three wishes.

Here's what Bono wished for:

WISH ONE
'I wish for you to help build a social movement of more than ONE MILLION American activists for Africa.'

WISH TWO
'I wish to tell people ONE BILLION times about ONE, with as much of this as possible before the G8 Africa Summit in July 2005.'

WISH THREE
'I wish for you to show the power of information - its power to rewrite the rules and to transform lives - by connecting every hospital, health clinic, and school in one African country, Ethiopia, to the Internet.'

Members of the TED Community, joined by a group of world-class companies, pledge support to help fulfill the wishes. And each winner also receives $100,000 to be spent in support of their wishes.

Along with Bono, this year's two other winners were the Canadian photo-artist Edward Burtynsky, and Medical technologies pioneer Robert Fischell.

It's no surprise that Bono is highlighting the campaign group ONE as central to his wish list - if you don't know what the story is on THE ONE CAMPAIGN, you can find out more here.

Bono has identified a single goal to amplify each one of his three wishes, outlined a Plan of Execution for how the wish can be fulfilled - and raised the key questions that need to be answered along the way.
