Adam Awarded for Musicianship

Adam Clayton scooped a prestigious prize at the 2001 Orville H. Gibson Guitar Awards in Los Angeles yesterday.

Adam won in the Best Bassist - Male category, joining other winners including Peter Frampton and Foo Fighter's Dave Grohl,

Frampton took the award for Best Guitar Performance for 'Off the Hook' and a special Gibson Lifetime Achievement Award. Grohl won Best Rock Guitarist Male, Melissa Etheridge won Best Rock Guitarist Female, while Adam Clayton and ex-Smashing Pumpkin/Hole bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur won respectively for Best Bassist Male and Female.

Other winners at the Awards, which took place at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, included Emmylou Harris for Best Acoustic Guitarist Female, Kenny Wayne Shepherd for Best Blues Guitarist Male, Ronny Jordan for Best Jazz Guitarist Male or Female, and Shelby Lynne for Best Country Guitarist Female.
