Bono and Edge have shared a performance of 'Sunday Bloody Sunday', complete with a new closing verse.
The acoustic performance captured at home in Dublin comes on the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, on 30th January 1972, when thirteen civil rights protesters were shot dead by British Army soldiers in Derry.

'Sunday Bloody Sunday (30, January 2022)'
I can't believe the news today I can't close my eyes and make it go away How long, how long must we sing this song? How long? How long? 'Cos tonight We can be as one, tonight, tonight.
Broken bottles under children's feet Bodies strewn across the dead-end street But I won't heed the battle call It puts my back up, puts my back up against the wall
And the battle's just begun There's many lost, but tell me who has won? The trenches dug within our hearts And mothers, children, brothers, sisters Torn apart
Sunday, bloody Sunday Sunday, bloody Sunday
How long, how long must we sing this song? How long? How long? 'Cos tonight we can be as one, tonight, tonight Tonight, tonight Tonight, tonight
Wipe the tears from your eyes Wipe the tears from your eyes Sunday, bloody Sunday Sunday, bloody Sunday Wipe the tears from your eyes
Here at the murder scene The virus of fiction, reality TV Why so many mothers cry Religion is the enemy of the Holy Spirit guide And the battle just begun Where is the victory Jesus won
Sunday Bloody Sunday never more relevant. I've just discovered Okean Elzy's - Not Your War and it is singing from the same songbook. It captures the moment of recognition and decision between the lament and rage of Sunday Bloody Sunday at Red Rocks and the energy of action that is cheered on in "I'll go crazy if I don't go crazy." I loved Bono's rendition of My Friendly Epistle by Taras Shevchenko. I'd also love to see a collaboration with Svyatoslav Vakarchuk to direct funds toward the millions displaced by war and the monumental work of rebuilding that will be left when the TV cameras have gone. Bono once said that Rock 'n Roll is for him a rebellion against his own complacency. God knows, I need that music. Here are a few scenes from Ukraine set to music to melt the heart. I hope the band (and others) will find the following inspiring as I have.

One in all to defeat Putin
So many lives have been destroyed by a man's decision. Ivasion and destruction and the history of war horrors is to be repeated by a man's decision. Indiference the whole europe has been watching this movie - no movent to salve anyone from this hell. Save our brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers and children from Ukraine!

The song at Red Rocks and Live Aid
I shall pray with them now
for them and for us
Live Aid is maybe closer cos then I was aware of the band indeed in 1985 it was on the radar in 1983 but yes
The song is so very real now in 2022
Slava Ukraini!
We are with U. With you ("it is all I can do").
Slava Ukraini
Slava Ukraini
Slava Ukraini
Amen

vacuum of peace
Looking at the sun rising across the Coachella Valley in California and at the south-western rim mountains of Joshua Tree park in the distance - your music echoes. Thank you U2 for being voices of peace and hope, and (self)-reflection.

Hope
The fact that opetators of pop culture lift issues thru art makes humanity stronger.
Not all of it need to be viewed with politically ties to one event, only. Somehow these horrific events continue to reappear, globally, and stories need to be retold, to avoid further human suffering to be relived elsewhere.
So thank you for efforts to shake is up to focus on peace.

I remember a moment in time
U2 has been the soundtrack to my life. I grew up with them always playing in the background, at parties, nightclubs etc. Sunday Bloody Sunday has always been one of those hauntingly beautiful songs steeped in historic tragedy, often causing one to pause and reflect. Even though I live in Cape Town, literally the other side of the world, I was fortunate enough to see them twice. The first time was the 1998 Popmart tour, and the last, 2011's 360 Tour. I took my 8-year-old son to watch them - it was a dream to be able to share my music and the experience with him.
Here's a pic of him waving the Joshua Tree flag as we're making our way to the stadium.
He's name is Joshua. And before you ask, yes, he was named after the Joshua Tree album. The wee lad is now 18 and a varsity student.
Time moves on, but quality music endures.

I’m lying in a hospital recovering from complications of having covid a couple of weeks ago. I coded this week but the music of U2 was always in my head giving me hope, strength and peace.

Haunting version
What a haunting reminder of a horrible incident. It´s sung and played with so much emotion, sincerity and sensitivity. I´m particularly moved by the last new verse that reflects the troubles our world has to face in our times. Bono and The Edge beautifully show us how relevant this song still is.

Bono’s voice and Edge’s cords moves me every time with this song.
You can feel the pain, the sorrow, the torn with each word.
Thank you!

AMAZING AS USUAL
I am and have been a U2 - fan for years. I took my 18 year old grandson to a U2 concert in Boston, a couple years back. I wanted to see his reaction. He was hypnotized at the performance. Now he's a true fan. We don't have this beautiful music (I'm sad to say) coming up for the younger generations to experience. I'm sad for them. I've had an amazing life filled with great concert experiences, music, song, and more. U2 is on the top of my list. COME BACK SOON.

Ummmm
Hey I'm an Irish American girl who lives in Kentucky and I have loved U2 since I heard Joshua Tree (I was born in '74). I have seen U2 twice. Last time was at Vanderbilt. I was an ICU nurse then. I remember PM being on the patient census next day. Wtf.

What else i can expect?
When i was in Colombia, my dream was just to have the opportunity to enjoy at least one show no matter if i had to be milles away. When i moved to the states every show that i can enjoy with these monster of the music it is an amazing experience. This performance, the acoustic is in another level. Wish one day can see Bono in person and say thank you for all that their music did and colored my life. God bless you and can have you for many many years more.
