Surprise in Seattle

5 Jun 201125
NASA Commander Mark Kelly appears at U2360° in Seattle.

U2 delivered a surprise to the crowds at Quest Field, Seattle last night with a video message from Commander Mark E. Kelly.

Bono dedicated 'Beautiful Day' to Gabby Giffords, before asking, “Imagine a man looking down on us from 200 miles up. Looking down at our beautiful crowded planet… What would he say to us…? What is on your mind Commander Kelly?”

Commander Kelly, on a 16-day mission with the Endeavour crew, recorded the message aboard the International Space Station, “Hello Seattle… from the International Space Station.”
Before finishing on a line from David Bowie's 'Space Oddity' : “I’m looking forward to coming home. Tell my wife I love her very much… she knows.”

U2360° has worked with NASA and the International Space Station throughout this tour - having previously linked up with Belgian astronaut Commander Frank De Winne, Michael Barratt of NASA, Bob Thirsk of the Canadian Space Agency, Koichi Wakata of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, and Gennady Padalka and Roman Romanenko of the Russian Federal Space Agency as well as Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte during his visit to the International Space Station.

U2 take me to outer space
What a wonderful video!!! It is very moving to see how Commander Kelly lets the words of the line "It;s a beautiful day" float in his spaceship. U2;s connection with NASA is such a great contribution to the shows. The music of U2 always takes me "to that other place".

First Time...
... And certainly not the last time I will see U2 live in concert. We spent an entire afternoon waiting in line meeting some of the most wonderful people to ensure inner circle status. It was spectacular. My girlfriend and I have mentioned that we are probably going to visit other stadiums in the future just to see them perform once again. Thank you U2 for coming to Seattle! Come back very soon!

National and Global Treasures
This was tremendously moving! U2 never let us down and never let us forget what really matters in this world. I loved this segment. U2 turned Commander Kelly into a performance artist. And I had to remind myself that the shuttle had already landed several days prior. Still praying and pulling for Congresswoman Gifford and Commander Kelly. They are national treasures. U2 are a global treasure.

Great Surprise, Thanks!
Using technology to connect hearts and minds is inspiring. Loved the way Kelly (the other Kelly) shared the message in words. Serene.

Memorable Moment
It never ceases to amaze me how U2 continues to create emotional moments to remember like Beautiful Day. As soon as the song was over I told my best friend that was the highlight of the night. So cool and touching at the same time. Even better when I learned we were the first to experience that moment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35VAvTAFGzA&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Beautiful Day Indeed!
So happy Commander Kelly and the Endeavour crew arrived safely back on our beautiful and troubled planet, and God bless Gabby Gifford on her continued recovery. They have touched us and taken us to other places and none of us are hopeless cases :)
