Songs That Saved Our Lives

Larry, Adam, Edge and Bono have chosen ten songs each that 'saved their lives'.

Those selections make up a personal, gorgeously formed 41-song playlist now uploaded to Spotify, starting with ‘Your Song Saved My Life’ recorded for the movie Sing 2.

Listen here.

From Bob Marley and Diana Ross to Led Zeppelin and Britney Spears….  this playlist is not about mere musical ‘influences’. These are life-savers!

So what are the songs that touched you deep? Or lifted you high? Songs that changed your world for good?

If you compiled your own top-five, who’d make the cut?

And which U2 songs would make your list?

Let us know in the comments, especially if there’s a story behind a song...

In the meantime, ’Your Song Saved My Life’ is short-listed for the Best Original Song Category at this year’s Oscars. Sing 2’s director Garth Jennings explained that when Bono played it to him for the first time, "It was one of the highlights of my entire career, because it was just, sort of, beautiful in every sense."

It also meant he had a new song to use for the film: “It was the entire ending of the movie being handed to me on a plate,” he recalled. You might call that a lifesaver, too.

Sing 2 premiered in December in the US, and gets its UK and Irish release on January 28.

Only one song can save your life
Only one song can save your life. Whenever I cant take it anymore or the loss feels too great in my life, I "Walk on" for everyone and everything I love. It gives me stength and brings tears to my eyes at the same time. Some day I'll be gone and "Walk On" will be the final gift to those I love to remember me and keep going

Music Soothes the Soul
All That You Can't Leave Behind came out around a very bad time in my life, I had lost my mother unexpectedly and was very depressed and spiraling. "Stuck in a Moment..." literally saved my life, and continues to do so today while I'm dealing with dark days due to my daughter's leukemia diagnosis. Songs that saved my life: By U2 - Stuck in a Moment, Walk On, 13, One; Other artists - I Hope You Dance by Lee Ann Womack, Ooh Child by The Five Stairsteps, Everybody Hurts by REM, Better Days by Goo Goo Dolls, Don't Stop Believing by Journey, Ain't No Stopping Us Now by McFadden & Whitehead to name a few. I truly believe music soothes the soul.

Your songs saved my life
When I was 19 I started university and I was going through a deeply difficult period of my life. I used to get a bus or train to university every day and it was often grim and cold and dark which did not help my mental state. My saviours were U2. I always had my ipod with me for thr journey and I would listen to you 4. You kept me going in the darkest of days. I would find myself crying on train platforms some days or in the bus in the dark but then I listened to your music and it was a comforting blanket. When I heard your latest release, I couldn't think of a more apt choice of song from U2. Thank you for the comfort and companionship in my darkest days and the joy and life in my happiest. Love Pauline age 31 N.Ireland. My list "Stuck in a moment" "Walk on" "The little things that give you away" "Bad" "Sometimes you can't make it on your own" "Acrobat" "13 There is a light" "Every Breaking Wave" "Into my arms" Nick Cave also Ane Brun's beautiful version. "Both sides now" Joni Mitchell "Storms" Fleetwood Mac "Don't dream its over" Crowded House "Has anyone ever written anything for you" Stevie Nicks "In my life" The Beatles "Tears in heaven" Eric Clapton.

Songs that saved my life
I was having a horrible time in my 20's, lots of loss and pain. I was nearing ending it all, but somehow the guitar in Until the End of the World spoke to me in a way nothing else did. Definitely saved my life. Ultraviolet also helped immensely, Sometimes I feel like I don't know, sometimes I feel like checking out, I want to get it wrong, can't always be strong, and love it won't be long... and then it breaks into a glorious sound that still lights my way.

Songs I can’t live my life without
There are more than 4 songs that saved my life or helped me get through my life better. These are the strongest of those songs that helped go from the darkness into the light. The first is Kite by U2, Not Dark Yet by Bob Dylan, Baba o Riley by the Who and Magnificent Seven by the Clash. Each one of those songs has opened my eyes calmed my heart a cured my soul. I listen to them often. Long live rock!

Top tunes.
The boy's list is okay, with Adams getting the vote. In my five there would have to be Bad (the live version) as this always got my baby to sleep when I cranked it up to full! Redemption song by Bob Marley, I sang this as I passed my fork lift driving course. Dire Straits Romeo and Juliet, Marvin Gaye's I want you and Teenage kicks by the Undertones.....Crank 'em up.

Team Bono
Wow. Five songs I deeply agree & feel with one of my most beloved vocalists ever. I hope one day soon he is singing again live nearby. Into My Arms heard into heart once in O2 London, when after some suffering, hot tears. Everyone around me soothingly, silently, singing the caressing chorus with Nick when I could not at all. I never forget it. How a song can be and people around. - Well reminds me U2 doesn´t it?

A very hard shortlist to do. I'm surprised to see The Ramones not making Bono, Edge, Adam or Larry's lists. Surely Glad to See You Go should have been in there. Peter Frampton's Show Me the Way is another noticble omission from B's.
