Joker Under Hammer

4 Apr 2002
Original art work miniatures by Bono, Gavin Friday and others will be auctioned for charity in Dublin next Wednesday.

The art works were created for for Art:Pack, a set of playing cards designed to raise funds for the Irish Hospice Foundation.

Now Christies are to auction the original art works in Dublin at The Royal Hibernian Academy.

Viewing will be all day next Tuesday (April 9th) and Wednesday (April 10th), until 4pm, with a reception on the Wednesday at 6.00pm, followed by the auction at 7.30pm.

All proceeds go the Irish Hospice Foundation.

Bono and Gavin Friday, who produced the Jokers in the pack, are among an array of Irish artists who contributed works - other artists include Robert Ballagh, Matthew Barney, Basil Blackshaw, Felim Egan, Guggi, Anne Madden, Patrick Scott and Sean Scully.

Each artist was given the card size and a number - Ace of Clubs, Queen of Hearts and so on - and asked to design a card. The result is 54 pieces of visual artwork of startling originality and quality.

All the artists contributed their work in aid of the Irish Hospice Foundation, which supports hospice care in Ireland. Hospice care is life enhancing whether it involves residential or home care. It recognises the physical and psychological pain of both the patient and the family. That's why it's called Living to the End.
