Five Million Caught U2 Webcast

20 Nov 2001
U2's live webcast from the University of Notre Dame attracted a massive global audience of five million.

Last month's live show at the 11,000 capacity Joyce Centre, was the only show from the 101 date Elevation 2001 tour to be aired on the internet- and eclipsed the band's previous all-time biggest live audience. According to The Guinness Book of Records that was the 150,000-plus attendance at the Reggio Emillia Aeroporto concert on 1997's Popmart tour.

The webcast on October 10th, using Tiscali Content Delivery Network (CDN) and RealNetworks technology, proved a landmark in online rock music.

'It was exciting that we could connect so many fans around the world, at once, to watch such an amazing show,' said Sebastian Clayton of Digital:CC, producer of U2.com and the webcast. 'This multi camera webcast provided the best viewing for all online fans.'
