'Ecce Homo'

Irish renaissance man and long time U2 collaborator Gavin Friday has released the debut single from his highly anticipated solo album 'Ecce Homo'—his first in 13 years.

Having teased details of the new music in the months leading up to the release with mysterious posts written in Ogham - an ancient runic language that was used in Ireland and parts of the UK between the 5th and 9th centuries - the first taste of the album comes in the form of it's title track "Ecce Homo".

The track is a pulsing, pulverising menace, its streaks of florid noise and walls of hard-edged rhythms squaring up against enemies of inclusion and liberty as Friday throws the words of Pontius Pilate back at our persecutors, promising to "Fight fire with fire / We can walk on water" over warped gospel harmonies.

Speaking of the track, Friday says "the track 'Ecce Homo' is my own personal kick in the head and kiss on the cheek to a world gone very wrong."

'Ecce Homo', the album, which is out October 25, is produced by Soft Cell co-founder Dave Ball and Michael Heffernan. The bulk of the album's 13 tracks were written together by Friday and Ball, who had collaborated nearly 40 years ago when Ball produced the Virgin Prunes' album 'The Moon Looked Down and Laughed'.

Friday says 'Ecce Homo', where love songs and fight songs share the stage with reflections on loss, reveries of nostalgia, and excoriations of the powerful, is the most honest album he's ever made.

The 'Ecce Homo' digital EP, featuring two new remixes and an instrumental version of the title track, are out now.

Can Gavin persuade U2 to go down this ro
A brilliant track, pulsating club track, absolutely love it, and the video. Would love to see U2 do some of this kind of stuff as a new direction, or at least pushing further in the direction they dipped their toe in with songs like Discoteque, rather than sticking to the rather safer, middle of the road, I&E content. Even if its just a couple of tracks on whatever they are producing next.

“Ecco Homo” is Brilliant
Ecce Homo is an amazing work of art. The message of this song is on target with what our world is facing today. The song is a rhythmic, pulsating, gorgeous euphony of sound. Gavin’s beautiful and unique voice harmonizes well with the angelic background voices. This music inspires me to get up, move, and do something good and inspirational for humanity. Ecce homo (/ˈɛksi ˈhoʊmoʊ/, Ecclesiastical Latin: [ˈettʃe ˈomo], Classical Latin: [ˈɛkkɛ ˈhɔmoː]; "behold the man") are the Latin words used by Pontius Pilate in the Vulgate translation of the Gospel of John, when he presents a scourged Jesus, bound and crowned with thorns, to a hostile crowd shortly before His crucifixion (John 19:5). The original New Testament Greek: "ἰδοὺ ὁ ἄνθρωπος", romanized: "idoù ho ánthropos", is rendered by most English Bible translations, e.g. the Douay-Rheims Bible and the King James Version, as "behold the man". The scene has been widely depicted in Christian art. The word Homo has the extra personal meaning for Lynn & I- but of course this song explores all aspects of man- good and evil. Gavin’s use of contradictions and polarity have always been very thought provoking and emotional. We look forward to the full body of work, due to be released in October. Congrats Gav! Much love from Lynn and Da Captain.

Sounds good.
cristiu2: That's a good sign! The songs that takes a couple of/a lot of listens before they get to your heart and soul and to love are the ones that “wins” in the long run (and you don’t get tired of pretty soon).

Great!
Nice to get a new album from him. The first single sounds great, tough I had to go through a couple of listens before to get it. Excited to hear the full album!
