Greenpeace

Greenpeace began in 1971 when a handful of activists hired a battered boat and sailed into the US atomic test zone off Amchitka, Alaska, to protest against nuclear testing. They chose a name that linked their concern for ecology with their desire for a world free of nuclear threat: Greenpeace. Greenpeace's core principle is to prevent harm to the environment using the concept of non-violent direct action.
